Spinal Cord Injury Awareness month isn’t just a date on the calendar for me; it’s a reminder of how far I’ve come and the incredible technology that empowers me to live a life beyond limitations. As a C6 quadriplegic, my journey has been filled with challenges, but it’s also been filled with incredible opportunities that I never thought possible.

One of those opportunities is my career as a broadcast journalist. Yes, you read that right! With the help of my Quantum wheelchair’s seat elevation feature, I’ve been able to break barriers and pursue my passion for storytelling. This year, I had the privilege of covering San Diego Comic-Con 2024, and it was an experience I’ll never forget.
Navigating the bustling convention floor would have been nearly impossible without my seat elevation. It allowed me to rise to eye level with the stars I was interviewing, fostering a sense of connection and confidence that’s crucial in my line of work. The ability to seamlessly adjust my height also turned my wheelchair into a conversation starter, opening doors to meaningful interactions with fans and celebrities alike.

Being at “ilevel” with my seat elevation isn’t just about physical accessibility; it’s about leveling the playing field and proving that a spinal cord injury doesn’t define me. It allows me to be present, engaged, and “awesome” in what I do.
Spinal Cord Injury Awareness Day is a chance to celebrate stories like mine and to recognize the advancements in technology that are making dreams a reality for people with disabilities. It’s a day to challenge perceptions, break down barriers, and inspire others to embrace their potential, no matter their circumstances.
So, to anyone out there facing their own challenges, remember: You are capable of incredible things. Don’t let anyone tell you otherwise. And to the innovators and creators behind technologies like Quantum’s seat elevation, thank you for helping us reach new heights!
