My Staycation at Home

What a wonder month of August I’ve had! Due to the COVID-19 outbreak, we’ve had to find an alternative from our usual summer getaway. At first, I didn’t understand why we had to stay close to home this summer. I wanted to sit out on a beach somewhere. Well, my mom made this month very interesting. Every week, we explored nearby destinations in Georgia, where we live.

First, we visited the Atlanta Botanical Gardens. It has a plant collection across 30 acres and the scenery is beautiful! In the children’s garden, you can find the swamp hibiscus. This plant has big pink summer blooms. I wanted to see this plant because my mom always uses the dry hibiscus in the elderberry syrup she makes. The Alice’s Wonderland display is super large and made out of plants. The figure even spins around! They also have a super large plant dragon display. The earth goddess display is an amazing figure of a woman with her eyes closed, one hand up with water pouring from her hand into a pond. This was my favorite display of all. The Botanical Gardens also has glass art that will blow your mind.

I visited Amicalola Falls State Park to view the waterfall. It’s located in Dawsonville, Georgia, just an hour and a half from my home. I could ride straight to the top of the waterfall in my iLevel® electric wheelchair. I could also view the bottom of the waterfall, thanks to the wheelchair accessible walkway they built for me and other wheelchair users, so everyone can have another awesome experience. We then topped the evening off with a picnic near the river at the bottom of the falls. Once COVID-19 clears up, we’ll stay there in a cabin for a weekend.

I had a blast during my staycation and now it’s back to school. I’m glad I was able to use my Quantum® iLevel electric wheelchair to explore it all.
