My Experience With Mentors

Written By: Giana

Mentorship has played a big role in my personal growth and development. Through various mentoring experiences, I have learned valuable life skills, gained independence, and matured in ways I never thought possible. In this blog, I will share some of the impactful mentorship experiences that have shaped who I am today.

I have had multiple experiences with mentorship. I’ve had many mentors in my life, and my first experience with a mentor was at EmpowHer camp. I definitely needed a mentor because I wouldn’t even join meetings on time or at all. But after a while of having a mentor and learning how to be more independent and mature, I started to be on time to meetings. Having a mentor was a great example for me.

Another mentoring experience is with Stephanie Woodward. She works on advocacy and independent skills with me. We also work together on cooking, cleaning, and getting out in the community. One thing that I have learned from Stephanie during ComHab is how to write a résumé, which was very helpful.

Other mentors I have are the ones at EmpowHer ROC, where once a month on a Saturday we meet up and learn independence and life skills. One of my favorite activities at EmpowHer ROC was when we did vision boards. In summary, mentorship has helped me accept constructive criticism, grow, and mature.
