How iLevel Impacted My Life

In this blog, I’m going to talk about how iLevel® has impacted my life. iLevel has changed my life in so many ways. It has given me so much independence, helps people see me more as a “normal” person than just a person who has a disability. And, I have a job with the most amazing company in the world.

First, iLevel has given me so much independence. Ever since I got my iLevel, I felt free and I never felt like this with any of the other electric wheelchairs I had in the past. It has been four years since I started to use an iLevel wheelchair. I love it so much. I can be with my friends and family at iLevel, looking them right in the eye when we have conversations. My friends and family love it when I use iLevel because they don’t have to look down on me whenever they talk to me. I also love using iLevel with them because before I used to have to look up at them while they look down at me. With my iLevel power wheelchair, I can move around without needing someone to push me. I also can recline myself in the wheelchair if I want to lay down, but I don’t want to get out of the chair. I love it when I have those options available to me.

Second, people see me more as a “normal” person than a person with a disability. Of course, I am a person with a disability, but I don’t see myself as just that. I see myself as a person without limits. Yes, I do get questioned about what happened to me, but I don’t see that as a problem. Before I started to use my iLevel power wheelchair, I was viewed as a person with a disability. People who don’t have  disabilities always thought I wouldn’t make it in life. My family always knew that I would succeed in life and go further than they would have when they were my age. When I finished elementary school and started middle school, I developed a passion and interest for meteorology. I told my teachers that I wanted to be a meteorologist. They told me that it is a hard job to do, but I didn’t listen to them because my heart and mind was set on becoming a meteorologist. They didn’t think I would be able to attend college for meteorology because of my disability. I would love to tell them that I am in college for Meteorology now! Now that I have an iLevel power wheelchair, two news stations have put my story out there, sharing my accomplishments and how I have a passion for becoming a meteorologist.

Finally, iLevel has impacted my life by allowing me to have a job with Quantum. As a matter of fact, I didn’t even think I would have a job at such a young age. Although I must give credit to my technician, Nancy Shuster. If it wasn’t for her, I would not be able to have my iLevel power wheelchair or a job with Quantum. Nancy had some connections with people from Quantum, something my parents and I knew nothing about. At the age of seventeen when I was a senior in high school, I started to work with Quantum. It was an amazing experience going to expos and talking to people who have disabilities just like me. Today, I am still active as a Quantum brand ambassador and I go to trade shows and talk to people who have disabilities and show them the benefits of Quantum’s power wheelchairs and iLevel technology.
