Every year, Cure SMA (Spinal Muscular Atrophy) hosts an annual SMA conference. This year, the conference was held in California at the ultimate and amazing Disney Land Resort. When I am at the SMA conference, I like to talk with some of the other kid and adult wheelchair users to get their thoughts about iLevel® technology.
This year I interviewed a few kids and we played together using iLevel®. We also enjoyed the festivities in the kids-only playroom. We had so much fun together. Read my other blog on making friends with kids at iLevel. I love these times because just about everyone there is familiar with how us kids roll! They are not super scared when we speed a little and freak out like some people do. I know they’re thinking that I’m too small to handle my wheelchair, but I then show them how in control I am in my iLevel power wheelchair.
The SMA conference gives me the chance to meet children from all around the world who battles the same condition that I do. I have grown up with these kids since I was first diagnosed at 1 ½ years old. The conference is where I met my first international friend from India. Her parents and grandparents came to the states so they could interact with other SMA families, doctors and researchers. Overall, I have developed 30 great friends from attending the conferences throughout the years. We are now lifelong friends and anticipate every conference.
Since I became a brand ambassador for Quantum, I have been promoting and showing off the iLevel wheelchair to my many friends. At the conference, I advertise the iLevel by elevating my chair up to 12 inches at our Quantum booth, and I bring prospects from other areas of the conference to try out our products. This year I’ve seen so many kids that have changed to iLevel now more than ever before.
Next year the SMA conference will be in Florida! I plan to have a new iLevel Power Chair by then and invite more kids to try iLevel out at the Quantum booth. I’ll get even more kids playing and hanging out using iLevel, as if we run the world! We call ourselves the “Quantum Boys” and we’re taking life by storm with iLevel!
