When I Grow Up

When you ask a kid what they want to be when they grow up, most kids want to be a doctor or a lawyer. Once upon a time I might have wanted that too. I chose something that is the total opposite. One of my dream jobs I already have begun doing. When I was younger, I was sworn in as an honorary police officer for the city of Covington. I even got the key to the city. Pretty cool, huh? I was super excited and I still do things with the force today. Every year we have a shopping event for kids that are less fortunate. Since my dream of becoming a police officer has become a reality, I feel like I can do anything!

I really want to try my hands at being a game designer, I am an avid gamer so I would love to be a part of something that makes me and other people happy. I enjoy games like Call of Duty and Fortnite. I would want to design a shooting/ building/ Battle Royale game. For those of you who don’t know what Battle Royale is, it is a game that is multi-player and it blends survival, exploration and scavenger adventures all together. The games I mentioned above are Battle Royale games. There aren’t many on the market and I wouldn’t want to steal anyone else’s idea so I would have to think of something original.

Games like these bring my friends and I closer. Even when we can’t be around each other, like right now with social distancing, we can get on the game and play online with each other. On days when we are not in school, we play together.  We even play weekends after I have finished all my chores and my schoolwork. Battle Royale games are so exciting because you never know what you might experience, kind of like life. The video games give me a sense of normalcy and it takes my mind off not being able to play other games with my friends right now.

I started gaming when I was younger. My older brother plays video games and once I was old enough to pay attention, I was very interested to learn. It took a minute for him to let me play with him, but when he did I learned quickly. My friends have either an Xbox or PlayStation and we play games at their houses sometimes, usually on the weekends and we have lots of fun. I think if I don’t become a game designer maybe I can test out new games on the side. That would be cool too. Then I would get to see all the new games before anyone else. My mom makes sure I keep a good balance between video games and schoolwork. Over the holidays, she wouldn’t let me play my games until I was done with the reading my teachers had assigned for me. That was motivation to read faster because I really enjoy the time I spend playing games. Plus, all my friends were online waiting for me.
